Castell del Remei.
Castell del Remei—led by its owner Tomàs Cusiné, a highly-recognized oenologist and considered one of the best winemakers in the country—is an historical estate from the Costers del Segre D.O., where the first viticulture activity dates back to 1780. It is the oldest winery in Catalonia and the first Catalan winery built according to the Bordeaux model surrounded by vineyards.
The soils on the property are predominantly argilo/calcareous. The plots of vineyards are situated on the bed of the Central Depression and are located in fertile soils of mainly alluvial composition. The winery property has 100 hectares of vineyards, which are all organically grown. 80% of the grape cultivation takes place in the mountain nearby Castell del Remei, at high altitude (between 700 and 800 meters), on loamy soils with plenty of gravel that allows for good drainage.
